The HOKA Bondi 9 officially launched at the North Bondi Beach Club on the 22nd of February. One of the world’s most loved running shoes the Bondi, debuted in 2011 as part of HOKA's early lineup, aiming to redefine running comfort.

From its first few steps, the Bondi stood out with its thick, cushioned midsole, designed to reduce impact and fatigue on longer runs. Its unique look and technology helped the HOKA Bondi carve its niche in the running community.

Now up to its ninth iteration, the Bondi has had a few changes over the years, however it still aims to be the hardest working running shoe in the world.

Overhauled from top to bottom, the Bondi 9 has an increased stack height and a new premium foam midsole to deliver that soft, resilient ride that’s become synonymous with the Bondi.

What are the differences between the HOKA Bondi 8 and Bondi 9?

Let’s look at a few key differences between the Bondi 9 and the Bondi 8 running shoe.

Weight: The Bondi 9 is lighter at 297.67 g compared to the Bondi 8's 306.17 g.

Heel to Toe drop: The Bondi 9 features a slightly higher heel-to-toe drop of 5.00 mm versus 4.00 mm.

Midsole & Cushioning: The Bondi 9 gets an additional 2mm more stack height, moving it up to 43mm in the heel, making the shoes bouncier than ever. The midsole has been upgraded to supercritical EVA foam, which is also used in the Mach 6.

The Bondi 9 has upgraded underfoot cushioning with super critical foam, adding 2mm in stack height. The midsole upgrade brings a lighter feel and more responsiveness, while the broad midsole surface area and sidewalls keep the shoe stable even with that extra stack height.

New knit upper and improved fit: The Bondi 9 features a retooled collar and a reworked knit upper that provides a better fit, allowing for extra breathability and more stretch during long-distance runs and hot weather workouts. It's well-padded through the heel collar, with more thickness through the gusseted tongue and a soft plush feel that matches the feel of the underfoot midsole.
